We are looking for a Food Service Worker for the Nutrition Services Department at St. Joseph Hospital Eureka.

Location: Eureka, CA
Work Schedule: Full Time - 80 Biweekly Hours
Shift: 8-hour, Days (Variable Shifts)
 
Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Manager of Nutrition Services and the Supervisor of Nutrition Services, the Food Service Worker performs food preparation duties such as cold food, salad and catering production.  Duties may include stocking patient floors, setting up and cleaning up catering events, and working a position on the patient trayline.  All positions require that daily cleaning be done in each area and checklist areas signed.  Equipment used includes blenders, food processors, mixers, and slicers.  Interacts with patients in an age-appropriate manner for all age groups (infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric).
 
Essential Functions:
  • Demonstrates age-specific communication skills in all interactions with patients and their families.
  • Accurately follows standards for food production.  Produces attractive, fresh food items using proper portioning and garnishing.
  • Adheres to department infection control and food safety policies.  Wears gloves, proper hair covering, and uniforms.  Maintains impeccable personal hygiene.
  • Maintains a clean, sanitary, uncluttered work area during production.  Completes assigned cleaning tasks.
  • Organizes and uses time efficiently so that work is completed in the allotted time.  Follows job description whenever possible.
  • Completes all scheduled cleaning assigned to the position.  Initials the Cleaning Checklist.
  • QUALITY IMPROVEMENT
    • Resource Utilization: Ensures that appropriate supplies and equipment are available, accounted for, and used in a cost-effective manner.
    • Safety: Helps to provide a clean, comfortable environment for customers and others by taking appropriate safety precautions and responds to urgent safety situations effectively.
    • Productivity:
      • Organizes, prioritizes and completes activities in an efficient manner.
      • Demonstrates initiative in assisting others and performing other duties based on skill level and training orientation.
    • Quality Improvement Program: Participates in department problem solving, suggests improvements, and facilitates change.
 
Skills:
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to speak effectively with customers and employees
 
Preferred Position Qualifications:
Experience:
  • Food production experience.
  • Computer experience.
